There's a Man on the Moon! Or is there...?

Welcome to You’d Have to be Crazy to Believe This! Here every week we will cover a different conspiracy theory and the mystery surrounding them. I want to do this not because I personally believe all of these but because I think they are fascinating to read about. Plus I want to know what parts you guys believe are fact and what parts you believe are fiction. So lets get into the first one!

I thought I’d start this off with the granddaddy of them all: the moon landing. On July 20th, 1969, during the cold war, the U.S. beat Russia to the moon. Pioneers Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon and notoriously took “One small step for man, one giant leap for man kind.” Or did they? There are a lot of people out there who believe the moon landing footage the public saw was actually created on a soundstage in Hollywood in order to fool the Russians into thinking we beat them to the moon. Here are some reasons why.

One of the first things most people notice about the moon landing pictures is that there are no stars. Being in space one would automatically assume that there would be stars everywhere. Well some say the people who produced the footage of the moon landing choose to not include stars for fear of placing them incorrectly in the sky, which would be a dead give away to the falsehood of the moon landing. However NASA has accredited the lack of stars to the poor video quality of the time.

Another alleged proof that the moon landing was fake is the fact that the flag was blowing in the wind. Aldrin and Armstrong famously planted an American flag in the moon, as a symbol of the American victory against Russia. The flag triumphantly waved in the “wind” proclaiming the United States Victory. But many conspiracy theorists say due to the lack of atmosphere, there should not have been any wind on the moon. That alternatively, the flag was blowing because of special effect put in place during the staging of the moon landing. This allegation has been addressed as well. NASA as said that the flag was not actually blowing in the wind, but instead was rippled and creased because of the way it was stored during the ride to the moon.

The next piece of evidence that the falsehood of the moon landing is the “C” rock.  If you look closely at the photos from the moon landing, there is a rock that is clearly marked with the letter “C.” Some would say this rock was a marked prop from the set of the moon landing. NASA has never given a concrete explanation for this; they suggested it might have been an error in developing the photos or a stray hair that landed on the rocks.

The last piece of evidence and the one I find most compelling is this photo of what appears to be a studio light reflected in the helmet of one the astronauts. Whether or not it’s a light is still up for debate but many theorists say this object appears to be hanging from something, not something you would see in space. There has been no credible explanation for this but some would say it’s just a light reflection or a camera filming the historic journey.

While these are not the only examples of why the moon landing was fake, these are some of the most famous and compelling reasons as to why its was faked. If you are interested in reading more on the subject you can checkout this TIME article here. If you want to hear more from the people who believe this sort of thing (a website I found most amusing and helpful) check out MoonLandingHoax.org for more info. So what do you think? Do you think the moon landing was faked? Did these pieces of evidence change your mind? Let me know in the comments! Until next week!!
