Pan Am Flight 103

Hello! Welcome back to “You’d Have to be Crazy to Believe This!” This week we have a lesser know, but very intriguing conspiracy theory. Pan Am flight 103. Flight one 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988 killing hundreds. But what seemed like an open and shut terrorist case has raised many conspiracy theories. Lets look at the case!

December 21^st, 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 took off from London and began its journey to New York. A mere 38 minutes later, the Boeing 747 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland killing all 259 people on board as well as an additional 11 people on the ground, bringing the death count to 270. In a cooperative effort between British and United States investigators, it was found that the flight was the victim of a Libyan terrorist attack. Fragments of circuit boards and a timer lead investigators to conclude that one Al Megrahi, who was later tried and found guilty of the crime, had placed a suit case bomb on the plane. But is there more to this story?

When the case was originally being investigated, the investigators suspected Iran was responsible for the terror attack. But as the investigation progressed in to 1990, Iran became an valuable ally to the united states during the golf war, so an attack like this, in which 189 Americans were killed, could result in a shift of public opinion of our new found allies. Luckily the fragments of circuit and timer found in the crash were later traced to a Libyan manufacturer. While the manufacturer, strongly denies this claim the United States holds strong to its conclusions.

The next part gets a little hard to follow so I’m going to break it down by year.

1990

A Libyan Intelligence officer, Al Megrahi, is accused of the attack by the FBI after a long too year investigation. There evidence is a witness by the name of Tony Gauci identifies Tony as the man who purchases certain clothes found in the suitcase containing the bomb. The Libyan leader at the time, Muammar Gaddafi, goes public says that Al Megrahi is innocent and that Libya had nothing to do with the attack. In response, The United states, with the support of the United Nations, impose economic sanctions on Libya. They tell Gaddafi they will not be lifted until Al Megrahi extradited.

1999

Britain and Libya make a Prisoner transfer deal in which Al Megrahi is extradited to the United Kingdom.  There, he is convicted. Merely day’s later Trade sanctions are lifted and British Petroleum or BP is let into Libya to continue drilling. Many people find the timing of these two deals very suspicious.

2009

Fast-forward 10 years. Megrahi is released from prison in the United Kingdom on “Compassionate Grounds” due to his diagnosis of terminal cancer. Many find this odd because he was denied two appeals not long before this decision. But he is taken back to Libya to live out his final days.

2010

British Petroleum or BP admits that it lobbied for the prisoner deal that lead to Al Megrahi’s extradition in 1999 but denies current claims that Al Megrahi was only released in exchange for BP to drill off the coast of Libya.

2012

Leaked files from the Megrahi trial are leaked which reveal that’s the star witness of the case, Tony Gauci (remember him?) gave conflicting testimony. Not only that but the leaked documents reveal that the FBI paid Gauci $2 million dollars, the reason is unknown. These documents were never confirmed to have been legitimate FBI documents so it is unclear whether or not we can trust them.

Later in the year Al Megrahi dies, all while maintaining his innocence on his deathbed. 

2013

New York Times journalist Robert Worth revealed in an article that an unidentified former top C.I.A. official revealed it was Iran, not Libya responsible for the attack.

The Bermuda Triangle

Hello! And welcome back for another conspiracy theory. This week is a good one. It is one of the most mysterious places on the planet, causing the deaths of thousands over the years. I am talking about the Bermuda Triangle. Many ships and planes have met their end over this 500,000 square mile patch of water. But what causes these tragic deaths? Let’s look at some of the stories.

Christopher Columbus

The earliest record of strange happenings in the Bermuda triangle is that of Christopher Columbus and his crew on their voyage to the new world in 1492. Christopher Columbus reported that there were strangle lights on the water and that with no wind or outside force, the water would go from calm to violent in a moments notice. On top of that, all of the crew’s compasses stopped working. As we all know eventually Columbus and his crew made it to land.

Flight 19

In 1945, the U.S. Air Force scheduled a routine training exercise. 14 airmen took flight, but after about an hour and a half things began to go wrong. The flights leader radioed in to report what was happening. He said that all of his compasses were malfunctioning, saying, “We don’t know which way is west. Everything is wrong. Even the ocean doesn’t look as it should.” That radio call was the last that was ever heard from flight 19. All the airmen and their planes seemed to vanish into thin air. In response, the air force sent 13-man planes to locate the missing officers, but about half an hour after take off, that plane vanished never to be seen again.

The Ellen Austin

The Ellen Austin was a ship departing London in 1880. As it was sailing through the Bermuda Triangle it come across an empty ship? Curious, the crew decided that some of them would go aboard the empty ship and sail it back with them. But during the journey, the Ellen Austin and its new companion became separated. After a long time apart the ship sailed back into view. But once again it was empty. The crew that had taken over the ship had disappeared without a trace.

So what is causing all of this? Well one prominent theory is the Bimini road. The Bimini road was discovered in 1968 in the depths of the water of the Bermuda Triangle. Bimini road is an under water rock formation, but is unclear quite why it is there. Some conspiracy theorists say it is man made, and therefore evidence of the lost city of Atlantis.  Many theories say that the technology interference is caused by the buried technology from this lost underwater civilization.

But of course there are some explanations for why these things happen. The Bermuda triangle is part of one of the most heavily traveled trade routes in the world, so the number of disappearances is proportional the amount of travel that happens over this route. Also this area has an abnormal magnetic field, causing compasses to malfunction.

Area 51

Hello! Welcome back to “You’d have to be Crazy to believe this”! This week’s conspiracy theory is out of this world! (It’s funny because it’s about space).  It’s area 51 and extraterrestrial visitors. Let’s look at the facts of this government conspiracy.

About 100 miles outside Las Vegas, Area 51 is a confirmed government-testing site. Many world war two area planes were built and tested there, so by all means it is a historic place. Area 51 was pretty mysterious to the public until 2013, when the Freedom of Information Act gave the public access to the record about what went on there, so while some of its illusive activates have been made public, there are still many mysterious thing happening there. But what made area 51 most famous was the Roswell, New Mexico UFO crash of 1947. It has been rumored that alien bodies were recovered from the crash and hidden away from the public. Is there any truth to these alien rumors? Let’s look at some evidence.

The searches

After the illusive Roswell crash, the government chalked it up to an air balloon that had come crashing down. Just an air balloon really warranted no need for concern from the public of the

government right? Well, after the crash the government launched massive searches with the military of the area in which the balloon had crashed. The searches went on for months and involved hundreds of military and government personnel covering hundreds of miles in two different states. Why such a large scale search for a simple air balloon?

Testimonies

There are several testimonies from people who worked in or with area 51 in or around the time of the crash. One example is Bill Uhouse. Bill was a mechanical engineer who worked at Area 51 between the years of 1966 – 1979. Bill claimed to have worked with a greyish alien like creature named “J Rod” Allegedly, J Rod was the captain of an alien ship that was being kept and studied at Area 51. But that’s not even the weirdest part. Bill claimed to have communicated with J Rod via telepathic technology that was being studied in the Area 51 labs.

Another testimony is that of Lieutenant Walter Haut. Lt. Haut wrote an affidavit that was released after his death stating that when he and his team were investigating and cleaning up the crashed Roswell UFO they recovered two alien bodies.  The he stated they were told to deny any claims of alien life coming from the press or public.

Glenn Dennis also claimed to have seen things following the Roswell crash. A nurse at the Roswell army airfield, Glenn claimed to have seen several doctors hunched over what appeared to be two deceased Alien bodies.

Perhaps the most compelling and frightening testimony is that of Boyd Bushmen. Boyd was a former Area 51 scientist and he gave a groundbreaking confession on his deathbed. He said he worked on reverse engineering alien technology for the government inside the Area 51 compound. He also claimed there were aliens secretly living at the base, helping the scientists. Some were friendly, some not so much. He even provided photos.

While a lot of this evidence may seem pretty convincing, a lot of the people who gave testimonies were never confirmed to have world at area 51. As for Boyd’s confession, a lot of people say his picture of the “aliens” looks a lot like a toy alien they sell for kids.

One of Hillary Clinton’s lesser-known campaign promises was to de-classify the Area 51 files. But since her election loss, we may never know what actually goes on there.

ILLUMINATI: CONFIRMED

Hello! Welcome back to “You’d Have to be Crazy to Believe This”. I gave my blog little make over because, to be honest, it was ugly. But now I think it looks better but let me know! This Week I want to talk about one of the most Internet famous conspiracy theories. The Illuminati *cue dramatic music*! While #IlluminatiConfirmed is often used as a joke on twitter, what is the Illuminati? Is there any truth to it? Let’s look at the evidence.

The Illuminati is not entirely made up, at all. In fact, they have a long, rich history spanning back decades. In Germany, 1776, Adam Weishaupt,

wanted to join a group to promote what he considered to be the ideals of society: Secularism and Rational thought. He thought maybe he would join the free masons but one thing deterred him; the entry fee. Being a professor, Weishaupt could not afford the fee to enter the free masons, so he started his own group; The Order of the Illuminati.

As any 18^th century group, they had trouble with the church and eventually were banned from recruiting new members. But nonetheless, they prevailed, spreading across Europe and then disappearing underground. But are they still around today? Here is some evidence.

The New World Order

For the most part, it is rumored that the illuminati’s number one goal is to create a “New World Order”. There is a lot of debate about what this entails. Some say the elite 1% wants to put the remaining 99% into concentration camps. (Not sure how that would work because 1% vs. 99% doesn’t seem like great odds.) Others say that the illuminati aim to create one giant all encompassing unifying government for every country in the world. No word on what kind of government this would be though. The one piece of evidence the illuminati conspiracy theorist have as “proof” of the new world order is this clip of president George W. Bush, which I have to admit is pretty creepy.

Because you probably can’t play it he says, “We have the opportunity before us to forge, for ourselves and for suture generations, a new world order. A world the rule of law, not the rule of the jungle governs the conduct of nations. When we are successful, and we will be, we have a real chance at this new world order”

He goes on to say more about how the united nations will govern all countries of the world and so on.

The Symbols

The illuminati have some pretty recognizable symbols. Most people know them from the pyramid on the back of dollar and their famous all Seeing Eye. But they have a few other symbols as well that can be found through out pop culture. One is simply covering one eye with the palm of your hand; another is touching your pointer finger to your thumb and extending your middle, ring and pinky fingers, and lastly the forming the famous triangle by touching your two thumbs and pointer fingers together. As you can see several celebrities have publicly made these symbols, causing illuminati rumors to swirl around them.

Clones

Ok this is a little wild so bare with me. Many illuminati theorist believe that the illuminati is slowly replacing Hollywood elites with clones who will do their bidding. While this may seem completely baseless, there is some evidence.  Many videos have surfaced of these alleged clones malfunctioning. Heres on of those videos of Beyoncé:

JFK vs CIA

Hello! Welcome back to “You’d Have to be Crazy to Believe This” This week’s conspiracy theory goes deep into the government’s darkest secrets. One of the biggest scandals in American history; the Kennedy assassination.  It has long been theorized that the government assassinated president John F. Kennedy, but is there any truth to that? Lets look at their argument.

On November 22^nd 1963, in Dallas, Texas, John F Kennedy, the 35^th president of the United States, was assassinated by a sniper while riding in a convertible through the city. The shooting was eventually attributed to Lee Harvey Oswald, who was arrested not long after. Americans were distraught. JFK was one of the most beloved presidents of all time. Who would want to harm him? Well many would say the Central Intelligence Agency or CIA assassinated the president over a difference in opinions on the Cold War. Kennedy wanted to take more of a diplomatic approach to the situation while the CIA had more of a take no prisoner’s attitude. Apparently their differences could not be solved as the CIA allegedly had him killed on that fateful November day. Here so some evidence to further that claim.

The Bullet.

The investigation into Lee Harvey Oswald, the shooter, concluded that he was a lone gunman. He was positioned on the 6^th floor of a near by skyscraper where he fired 3 shots, two of which hit the president, the third fatally hitting him in the head. Governor Connelly who was accompanying the president on his ride through the city was also hit in his chest and thigh. These 2 bullets struck through several layers of clothing and flesh. Plus the second bullet would have had to take an almost impossible course to have hit all the things it did. 

This has created the theory that there were two shooters, Lee Harvey Oswald and an additional CIA operative working from a separate angle.

Lee Harvey Oswald Assassination.

The man the public had to blame for the death of the beloved president was assassinated himself just two days after his heinous crime. The assailant was Jack Ruby, a nightclub owner. Although, he claims that he acted out of anger for the unjust murder of the president, Jack Ruby has been linked to the CIA. He was a former gunrunner and had many ties to the CIA and its operatives. Was Ruby sent to hush Lee Harvey Oswald and cover the CIA’s tracks?

The Paper Trail.

The CIA was allegedly the first people to start a JFK conspiracy theory. A Miami based magazine published a theory that Lee Harvey Oswald was working with Fidel Castro and the Cubans. However, a higher up exec of the CIA paid that same Miami based magazine 4.8 million dollars a year. Also there are still thousands of private files regarding the Kennedy assassination. But after years of waiting this year the CIA will have to address the increasing pressure from the public to release the files. So hopefully by the end of the year we will have more information!
